Strength

Strength is such a complicated word. I find strength in words and power in the mind, where I explore a rich internal world. But other people find strength in brute force, money, beauty, and social connections.

Don't get me wrong; I can see where those things have their benefits. I just don't care about them as I do words and imagination. To me, those are the true strengths of humanity, the true powers that can beat any odds.

Each source of power and strength has a place in life, of course, but I think if words and imagination were the primary source of power in this world, it would be a much better place to live. And if you use the other sources of power in combination with these two, you'll be unstoppable.

I don't have incredible beauty, I wasn't born rich, I'm not a very social creature, and I'm definitely not a physically blessed person. But I was born with a rich imagination and a love of words. Capability to use those two gifts effectively came from much trial and error, but the fascination was inside of me from day 1. And it lives on inside of me to this day.

What do you think about strength? Is it a complex assortment, delved from multiple sources? Or is it much simpler than that? Does brute force mean more than intelligence? What is your source of strength?

  1. Like Samson, my source of strength is my hair. When I get it cut, I find myself weaker than a puppy with muscle wasteage.

Actually, I find my strength in humour. The ability to laugh in the face of adversity.

    1. Humor is incredibly powerful stuff. I find myself growing far more when I look at the customers and INSANE crap I get thrown into while working for Walmart in a humorous fashion than when I look at it like a curse or personal attack.

And the stories are almost worth the pain.

If hair was my source of strength, I'd be a very weak person. My hair won't grow for anything.

In fact, maybe that's been my problem all these years...

  2. I have, and always will have, incredible mental strength and resiliance. Nothing that happens to me ever keeps me down for too long, and I always come back in the end. I'm not even sure where it came from. When I think of strength I usually think of the will to go on, and the courage to show emotion.

    1. Interesting. You mean fortitude? Resilience? Moxy? I agree, those are impressive examples of strength.

Like I said, it's a truly complicated word. Most words are, if you sit and study them for a while.

  3. The mental strength and creativity that we're born with can do so much Kyla, honestly that mentality can move mountains even though it mightn't seem like it. You definitely are strong as complex a word as it is Kyla, don't forget that you're brave and talented and have an amazing future ahead of you so don't worry!

    1. Thank you so much! I think you have an incredible future ahead of you, too. After all, that which doesn't kill us only makes us stronger.

That's always meant something a little strange to me. Like those of us who life makes suffer are under the universe's tutelage to become unstoppable.
